Fox News: What will you think up next?

Like a wacky sitcom that just gets wacky, here's another sound-byte gem from our friends at Fox News:

My, how insightful Fox. Yes, those two names do share similar sounds, I can see how you would get them confused... Good thing you also tried to explain your mistake by adding the part about "knocking off" them "both, if we could."

Yes, Fox tell us how you really feel...

Again, the Orange Terror Threat Level posed by black people existing in America is something we all should be concerned about.

"Always keeping the public informed on the world around them, That's the Fox News Difference!"

If you wish to sign a petition to try to stop Fox from using their national news organization as one of, not even basic partisan discussion, but veiled hate mongering...
Check this link out Moveon.Org, sign a petition to stop Fox News from...well, being Fox News.

And Just so this isn't a wasted post, here's something discobelle.net posted a few days ago that is just awesome...

and the samples fit with this post...

Flagrant Fowl - Tambourine Dream

So this collection of awesome has been out for sometime, since the end of last year I believe, so just about 6 months... but that does not take away from its divine qualities in the least. This my dears, is the Indie remix album from the DJ collaboration of Cousin Cole and Pocketknife aka "Flagrant Fowl." The reason for this post is that I don't think this release from two of the hottest remix weavers out there, has gotten its due time in the sun. So here it is, Tambourine Dream from Flagrant Fowl.

I got this 6 song picture vinyl from Turntable Lab and it has been one of my favorite party treasures. Couple months ago a CD version with 6 extra songs was released and every song seemlessly melded into the other, a fine fine mix. After that even, another CD featuring all 12 tracks from the previous version yet unmixed and not blended together, making it a prime live set album. I have included some choice tracks from the album, check them out and if you like what you hear - go out and get it.

Truth be known, I do not think this will be the last we will hear from those Flagrant Fowl boys...

Iron & Wine - "Each Coming Night" (Pocketknife's Rooftop Telescope remix) (zshare)

Joanna Newsom - "The Book Of Right On" (Pocketknife's Scowling Owl remix) (zshare)

Paul Simon - "Paranoia Blues" (Pocketknife's Big Apple Nostalgia remix) (zshare)

and my personal favorite...
Bruce Springsteen - "I'm On Fire" (Cousin Cole's Bad Desire mix) (zshare)

Actually, I noticed while listen to this song on the streets of New York, I actually walk to the tempo of the song...

How cool is that?

My one man initiative to jumpstart the rave-o-lution

Hello Friends, It's been a while... When not working long hard hours, or conversing with angels via a black obsidian disk, I've spent almost all of my free time producing an E.P. of original dance tracks which I will release in the very near future. So, I've kept pretty busy and neglected you beautiful readers/seekers out there.

However, I think you'll find this post k-rad enough to make up for it
It's safe to say that we can all see the age of the electro banger dying slowly and painfully before our eyes(and ears) and many of us find ourselves pondering what will happen next in the world of dance music.

I personally plan on establishing a utopian republic on a fortified island.... I will gather a few hundred followers, bamboo for huts, one thousand pairs of soft pajama pants, and a killer sound-system. We will spend our days laboring towards expressing our human potential to the fullest by any means possible, and our nights dancing our asses off to hot tracks new and old. We will establish psychic antennas in crucial locations to transmit the love vibes back to the regulated continents in hopes of liberating the masses through our shamanic dance magic. Here are some tracks from my personal collection that I don't plan on leaving on the mainland:

First up is Bassline changed my life by Adamski z-share

Adamski Sort of has to grow on you. There comes a time after listening to his tracks where you realize that his shit is fucking dope, but you gotta wait through some cheesy intros to get to the meat(aka the beat) This guy was a total dance pioneer, launched Seals' career(with the ubiquitous and brilliant "killer" which I won't post here because it's all over the net and if you don't have it you should get it right now) and still produces under the name Adam Sky. The dude was a total badass and would rock the fuck out of clubs with just a 303, a sequencer, a juno, and a 909. no samplers, no computers, just a couple pieces of analog kit. Here's a video of him Blowing minds at the hacienda back in the day:

Peep that jacket....if anyone knows where I can get a jacket like that, hit me up at worldatlarge@gmail.com Mr. Ski if you're out there and wanna just sell me the real deal, hit me up bro, name your price and you got it!

Next up is the Soulwax mash of 808 states cubik and Human Resources' dominator zshare

Of all the Dominator remixes out there, I think this one takes the cake. It's soulwax in the raw; with blazing filters and hooverific magesty. Makes me wanna kiss myself.

Speaking of 808 state, Here's the aphex twin remix of flow coma zshare

And for the sake of love vibes

n-joi - anthem zshare

mmmmm diva vocals

Peace Love Unity Respect

Life Light Love Liberty

Busy P - To Protect and Entertain

Man, what a treat this song is. I actually first got exposed to this during Phillip's recent mix. It's slowly turning into my fuckin' motto and I want it to be my entrance music. Seriously, I stay rocking this track. Check out Busy P's Myspace for some more tracks.

Steinski - What Does It All Mean?: 1983-2006 Retrospective

We all love dance music... We all love our DJs... Yes, we can all become sound editing geniuses with our new fancy softwares and various plug-ins. But how many of us truly appreciate how far this whole scene has actually come? Before the days of drag-n-drop and plug-n-play, people who wished to create a new genre of music had to find more creative ways of doing so, bringing us to today's post subject - Steinski.

In 1983, a then 32 year-old Steinski with his partner in music, 27 year-old Double D, sat within a studio for two days straight, cutting together their classic endeavor, Lesson 1 - The Payoff Mix. By editing together short samples using a turntable, an 8-track deck and a stereo deck they had began to create the "mash-up" genre as we see it today. They then took this piece and entered into a Tommy Boy Records promotional contest, in which entrants were asked to remix the single "Play That Beat, Mr. D.J." by G.L.O.B.E. and Whiz Kid (members of Afrika Bambaataa's Soulsonic Force). The jury who judged this monumental contest, included Afrika Bambaataa, Shep Pettibone, and "Jellybean" Benitez; who all awarded Steinski and DD's first Lesson the first prize.

The duo then went to produce other mini-mix-mash-ups for a number of years, a collection dubbed Lessons. These mixes began to influence beginning days of the art of Turntablism and Turntablists artist such as; DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist. And the precedent of insane sampling and layering has spawned artists such as fellow Illegal Art brethren Girl Talk and odds are you! Released in May, Steinski's album, "What Does It All Mean?" a 1983-2006 Retrospective gathers some of the innovators earlier material which has largely not mean available on CD.

So here they are, Lessons 1 through3 from Steinski...
Get Learned!

The Roots - Brithday Girl

It's mah birfday today, Good Ole' 26. I figured I wouldn't really be in the blogging mood today, so I have made this a scheduled post as I will be hopefully nursing a hangover today from our crazy party last night. So today I have posted a joint I have been rocking out for quite a while now, as well as a music video for the track.

It's The Roots latest message, Birthday Girl. Give it a listen and I think you will gather the meaning. And it stars the adult film actress, Sasha Grey. Can't beat that now.

Here's the track:

The Roots ft Patrick Stump- Birthday Girl (zshare)

And for all of our amusement, The Roots watch "2 Girls 1 Cup"
Watch Questlove scream like a girl :)

YASUTAKA NAKATA

"Yasutaka Nakata? Who the fuck is that? "

"I only listen to bangers from France and Australia. That name's not French or Australian. It just makes me want a vegan hot dog."

Now, those of you who know me well are learning nothing new in this post, but I am really not ashamed to say out loud that Japanese club pop is just utterly awesome.

It seems there a few consistent reactions with the Japanese tracks I show to my friends which vary from "yeah i already know Japan is fucking weird, but thanks" to "i think my brain has holes in it now".

The iconoclastic multi-instrumentalist Yasutaka Nakata produces sounds as one half of the dancefloor weapon unit Capsule, while at the same time producing a well-vetted stable of other artists for his own Contemode imprint.

Essential Nakata (direct dl):

Capsule - Starry Sky

Coltemonikha - Communication

Yasutaka Nakata f. Ami Suzuki - FREE FREE (extended mix)

Perfume - Polyrhythm (instrumental)

Just remember that I'll always be good for music that gives you cavities.

Oh Snap! meets Panzerbjorn

Panzerbjorn, Phillip, is a member of the Penned Madness family and if my little sister wasn't 16, I would want them to marry now so he could officially become a member of mine. Phillip has been DJing for the past year or so and kills it every time he gets behind his many MIDI devices. I have played with him a number of times and cherish the chances. Seriously, the kid will have a sponsorship from Ableton in the next few years - and we can all say "we knew him when..."

The first track in this mix is an OFFICIAL Oh Snap! remix.

Phillip approached the Maryland fellow about reworking his song "High Top Fade" and he gave him an enthusiastic "go for it!" Get ready for the first true Panzerbjorn production...

So here it is, a Penned Madness Exclusive!

Oh Snap!- High Top fade (Panzerbjorn doesn't play remix)
Klaxons- Gravitys Rainbow (Soulwax remix)

New Girl Talk Album - Here!

"Feed the Animals" is the new title of Pittsburgh native Greg Gillis' newest musical mash-up endeavor. Mr. Gillis or, as you might know him, Girl Talk has taken the party by storm over these past few years and with his fourth album, he intends to keep partying for much much longer.
Now I know a lot of traditional DJs give this man shit for playing on a computer, but fuck it, it's a good ole time. The time and energy put into mixing all these clips together is tremendous and we all know it. I am downloading the album as we speak... It's FREE through Illegal Art but donations are welcomed... I personally gave the $10 dollars plus shipping for a hard copy of the album when it comes out...

Give it a download and see how much you wish to donate afterwards...

Here is the link: Girl Talk - Feed the Animals FREE DOWNLOAD!!!!!!

Here are the first three tracks from the album:
("Still Here" is a jam for all the kids)

Girl Talk - Play Your Part Pt.1 (zshare) 320kbps

Girl Talk - Shut the Club Down (zshare) 320kbps

Girl Talk - Still Here (zshare) 320kbps

And if you have not seen the documentary "Good Copy Bad Copy" starring Greg Gillis, you should take the time to. It involves the ever-growing fuck mess that is copyright and the laws and investigations that go with.

Designer Drugs, taking on Florida.

Brooklyn based party artists Designer Drugs will be hitting the Florida scene here in August, bringing with them their special brand of fire and intensity. These two electric hooligans will be hitting various stops around our fine state during the dog days of summer, including: Orlando, Miami, Gainesville and Tallahassee (dates not confirmed yet). Their certain flair makes them a mixtape favorite, and actually a Designer Drugs track was included in the latest Frankie Chan Mix for IHEARTCOMIX/NLLR we posted yesterday. Make sure you go grab that, its a good one. I recently caught up with Michael of Designer Drugs during an AIM conversation for an impromptu interview:

Manley (7:36pm): You wouldn't happen to have a mix I could post on my blog to promote for August would you?
Michael (7:38pm): Yeah sure, hold on.

He answered my question straight and honestly, some in depth reporting huh?

Ok, I did talk to Michael over the AIM but it was nothing like this - just thought I'd have some fun. Back to business, I did receive a copy of Designer Drugs' 2007 Mix, DATAMIX02. You can grab your copy here.

Tuesday Mixtape Madness!!

So just like every other Music Blog out there, we at Penned Madness are going to try our hand at a special weekly theme. So for now, we're going to experiment with the concept of Tuesday Mixtape Madness...Madness...Madness...Madness...

So I have decided to dip into the well and use some of my fellow bloggers and DJ friend's recent additions to the mixtape universe. But I have also included two mixes from some more well known DJs as well, those are at the end... Till then...

First off we have Estrange from Orlando.

Estrange, Evan, works with the cats from Crush at Backbooth in Orlando and Pulp in Tampa, he was also former host of the recently bastardized Saturday/Thursday at Firestone in Orlando. He has been my boy for years and years, we grew up in the same shit hole of Brevard County Florida and killed way too many brain cells together over those years. But we both made it out so things are good now. Besides being awesome, Estrange is also a DnB and Jungle junkie, he's newest mix will quote: "Have you movin, shakin, and dancin all up in this bitch!"

Listen to this shit, he is insane:
Hella Hyphy 2
Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Kissy Sell Outs Six Different Ways)
Aeph - Leave Me Alone
Shinichi Osawa - Electro411 (Lies In Disguise Remix)
Telematrik - Exit Civilisation
Surki - White Knight Two
Dieselboy-Load_Rocket_(Gridlok_remix)
COMPUTER CLUB - Load Rocket
Danny Byrd - Weird Science
Shitdisco - 72 Virgins (Bloody Beetroots Remix)
Blame - Stay Forever

http://www.zshare.net/audio/1357714362707f41/

A summer mix-up from Glitter and Gold's queen, Miss Fit.

Miss Fit runs the popular music blog community of Glitter and Gold with the help of a few other cats. Don't listen to what Defame: Orlando says, it is a great blog and the people working it have their shit together. The Dude or Not-Dude of Defame is just pissed at the Orlando scene nowadays and is hating on anyone they can find, I have a feeling that this mystery person probably helped create most of the madness in Downtown Orlando at some point and just feels left out now. Anyways, besides running that biz, Miss Fit is also one of the resident DJ cats I mentioned before from Crush at Backbooth in Orlando and Pulp in Tampa, she was also a resident DJ of the again, recently bastardized Saturday/Thursday at Firestone in Orlando. Here's her mix for all you chillin' by the pool.

Get your shit started right, with The Summer Kick-Off Mix
American Boy- Estelle- Sujhino Remix
Lollypop-The Crookers
Ultra Flava-Mark Trophy’s Ultra Flava Remix
Day n’ Nite- Kid Cudi- Crookers remix
Wassup- Crookers Remix
Bust a Move- Don Remini Rave Kid remix
White Horse-Bass Kleph Remix
Go crazy- Armand Van Heldon
Facination-Alphabeat- Bimbo Jones Remix
WTG- Robyn-Seamus Haji remix

http://www.zshare.net/audio/126838264d96b7d2/

And then there's this guy, DJ Mannes

I put this mix together yesterday to give to Mike from Mad Happy when they played a show here in Tallahassee at All Saint's Cafe. If you haven't heard these guys, I highly suggest checking out their MySpace. They are fun, positive, great beat makers and all around great people. Anyways, my mix is definitely sloppier than Phillip's or Evan's - kinda just threw mine together. I only did it in one take, and that is not to imply I'm a better DJ - "Good Ole One Take Manley" - not at all; just that I made a few mistakes, but hey, what are you gonna do. and yes, I do read Palms Out too much... Here it is, sloppy at times but I hope you dig it.

Kickin' It with DJ Mannes:
Ben E. King - Stand By Me (Chew Fu ft Steve Clisby Big Room Fix)
The Yardbirds - For Your Love (Ursula 1000 Re-Think)
The Shangri-Las - Leader of the Pack (DJ Kue Remix)
Bryan Cox - Let's Go To Work (B.Rich Remix)
MSTRKRFT - Bounce (OH SNAP!! Bootleg Vocal Remix)
INXS - Need U Tonight (Jon Gill's One Of My Kind Mix)
Dizzee Rascal - Pussy'ole (Aaron LaCrate & Debonair Samir Gutter Mix)
Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade (DJ Kue Remix)
Rye Rye - Wassup (Crookers Remix)

PALERMO DISKO MACHINE - I RAGAZZI DELL 1982

It's the mid point of the year, hereabouts. Have any of you glanced behind us yet to see what's happened? I took just a peek to see if my summertime predictions from the spring have yet made a liar of me.

From here it seems: January was yesterday. Hundreds of dollars later on door tickets and gin/tonics at the disco, yet hundreds more on a handful of burgeoning EDM download services, and perhaps even hundreds more for miscellaneous parties in living rooms and backyards, it's the dead of summer. The year is half over and I, per my prediction, hate the music collection I so carefully assembled. That's easy enough to accept, as it happens a couple of times every year.

My most outstanding prediction was that the summer of 2kizzle8 would be a test of how well we could resist the onset of adulthood... it is not really so.

Adulthood catches you gently once it sees you barreling at it in full stride. I tried to smash its f-ing face in with a lowered shoulder, only to have it nonchalantly take a step out of my path and softly snare me in the crooks of its arms.

Now let me say that having one's future self set an example on grace does profound things.

The moral: I am adamantly certain the last truly good record I have bought was this year's inaugural music acquisition: Palermo Disco Machine's Shake Dat Shit EP. Everything else I have heard this year from the world of funk at large, with the exception of a handful of nice sounds by some of my friends, is failing to touch me in a way I can reciprocate. It French Touches me, which is just short of a French Kiss.

Palermo Disko Machine - Pump (original mix) (320Kbps Direct dl)
Buy this and the glorious a-side track at TurntableLab.

You say your searching for a Blog that'll take you out and do you right...

EDIT: So The Bastards over there in Bastardville have decided to take this video down... But I am going to leave the post open so you all have another chance to grab this track... -Manley

So I was preparing to write this long post about MGMT, when I stumbled upon a edited video of "Electric Feel" featuring the Rock-a-Fire Explosion. From there I found this golden beauty, the same characters singing Usher's "Love in this Club." So I had to give up my original task and post about this bad chicken, this one is for you Phillip...This is goddamn glorious.

And for those that didn't grab this previously mentioned gem, here it is...

Douster - More Jams Out of France!

I came across our subject for this post, Douster, a while ago while searching Palms Out during one of their famed Remix Sunday Posts. It was the first time I had heard of this cat and I was ashamed afterwards that I had not had know of this act sooner. I was especially ashamed for my ass, it had not moved to something so baser and funky in a long time. I must have listened to the version of Everybody Nose at least 21 times in a row that first week of having mine ears blown.

I have since included a Douster track in almost every set I perform, I am that blown away. I enjoy the simplicity of the Douster jams the most of all. Bass heavy beats, Ass shaking timing, stellar sampling and great choices for remixes - nothing that is too complicated but still showcases that time and thought went into these mixes.

Did I mention it shakes your ass! Below are some choice Douster tracks for your enjoyment. One of them happens to be a reworking of DJ Bryan Cox's dance hit "Let's Go to Work." Bryan Cox will be in Orlando at Suite B for their famed night, Carnival. I highly suggest making it out that night to see this guy rip it up, it's July 9th - mark your calendars.

Well, if you haven't already, Go get a new friend on myspace - Go add Douster and Bryan Cox and Carnival!

I fought the war but the war won't stop till we all make love in this club

Hi all! Phillip here, and before I make my introduction into the world of music blogging, I feel I should make this confession: I am a junkie for contemporary r&b radio. There, I said it. I'm not ashamed....lets move on, shall we?

By now you should be familiar with "love in this club" by Usher. The message is simple: Usher is in a club, and he wants to make love. He doesn't want to go home and make love, nor to a hotel, or even to his car; He wants to make love in this club. Plain and simple.

Now, if I had to pick one producer/dj duo that made me want to make love in a club, I would instantly pick mstrkrft, which is why it should come as no surprise that they produced a masterful remix of the Usher track which completely outshines the original in everyway. I dare say it's one of their best mixes to date. They even drop a sample of the reprise of layla by Dereck and the Dominos. How frickin cool is that?

Also, Check out this Mix they did of Monster Hospital by Metric, which takes a rockin tune and trans-mutates it into something utterly sublime(Respect to Manley for turning me on to this one)

Spoon - Don't You Evah Remixes

If anyone knows me, you know I fucking love Spoon. FuCkInG lOvE tHeM. Despite some not-so-choice career moves in my eyes ::cough Stranger than Fiction cough:: and a lackluster 5th album, I have always been a fan. 2001's Girls Can Tell and 2002's Kill the Moonlight are some of my favorite albums ever...EVAH!

Speaking of evahs, that's what the meat of this post is supposed to be about. Not just my love for Austin based Indie Rock acts, FuCkInG lOvE tHeM, but a Spoon single that has recently gotten some attention from some of the movers-and-shakers in this here dance scene.

On their newest album-2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga-Spoon had a single entitled "Don't You Evah." Originally a Natural History tune, Spoon covered their opening act's tune and turned it into a hit. Since the album dropped in July of last year, Britt and the boys have decided that their cover single needed some pizazz and punch. So recently producer/DJs like Diplo, Matthew Dear, DJ Amaze And Alan Astor, and even other personal Manley favorite Indie Front man, mah boy Ted Leo have given this song their own treatments. I received the CD in the mail from Turntable Lab yesterday, I am not disappointed my friends.

The songs are all different in their own rights, with each reworker throwing their own personal flair in their mixes. Ted Leo's is rather slow and somber, Diplo's has a multicultural beat behind it, etc. I have included some of the tracks from the album that I feel stand out, Matthew Dear's digital spin and DJ Amaze And Alan Astor's dance jam versions - and also the original from The Natural History.

Hope you enjoy.

Florida summerization

Hello there, kids!

As a new contributor to Penned Madness, I realize that there aren't too many things i can just jump out of the gate about with with the blogosphere... we mustn't bother with introductions. We just want the fun we deserve and we want it hard and filthy like the first time we did it when we were really drunk.

Maybe the first time we did it we were really drunk. In this case, thank you, because you obviously know exactly what i'm talking about. So let's talk music.

I told myself to try refraining from the bangers when imagining my first post, or most subsequent posts in general, but unexpected things come up at times... like the German dj/poduction duo Monosurround releasing a very exciting update to a 2006 classic.

The track 'Cocked, Locked' has gotten the summer funk treatment for a single release on the 16th of this month with Citizen recs. Since we can presume the Summerized EP will be available on either 12'' only, or digitally on the Citizen webstore for a frightening euro-to-dollar conversion rate, your beloved blogger is making sure your ipod needn't go without at least a good part of it.

Monosurround are really not playing around with the way their Summerized Club mix sounds. It's hard, yes. Funky at moments. Painfully good all the way through. Yes. And do stick around until after the breakdown if you like your terrifyingly distorted 2x4 synth leads on the downbeat. Peaks like this make me weak in the knees:

(direct download, 320kbps)

Be good,

Terrorist Fist Jab, Really?

Wikipedia describes the Fist Bump as follows:
The fist bump, also called the fist pound, dabs, dap, knucks, and knuckle bump, is a type of friendly gesture similar to a hand shake or a high five. It is performed by two people tapping their fists lightly. A bump also can be known as a symbol of giving of respect. Fist pounds can also be followed by various other hand and body gestures, but are part of a dap greeting.

That's not what FOX News' America's Pulse, host E.D. Hill thought on a June 6th broadcast... Where she inferred that Obama victorious gesture after receiving the Democratic nomination between him and his wife was a "terrorist fist jab."

(I apologize for the quality...)

She has since been fired from her position at FOX, and rightly so... but I can see what she was trying to say in her teaser, "I am confused with modern culture and the thought of having a Presidential Nominee that is so in touch with younger generations is hard to understand."

But E.D. Hill's statement came off as, "Black people and their secret hand motions scare the shit out of me and should scare the shit out of you too! I mean, they were the first terrorists you know... rebelling against Masta and all, wanting to be free. Wow, you ever think about what if they all could be terrorists. Obama does sound like Osama... Holy Shit, I gotta tell America! Obama was using his drug dealer sign language to alert other brown people, terrorists!! All the terrorists that are so jealously watching our fine example of the Democratic process, He's telling them...Man, I hate black people"

The ass-kicker is when E.D. hid behind the point in her report that when she saw President Bush do a "Chest Bump" (The Hillbilly High-Five) at a military graduation awhile ago, she said "I had only seen that in sports"

Are you meaning to tell me you never saw a "Fist Bump" before Obama tried to signal the other brown people you hate? Come on E.D., come on...

So for you viewing pleasure, I have made a collection of Fist Bumps and Pounds so we may all know a proper "Terrorists Fist Jab" from good old friendly gestures and not have something like this happen again.

Terrorist Fist Jab
(two people of a darker color plotting your demise)

Smile for the Camera Fist Jab
(These two are not friends, the man on the right is following proper white man procedure when confronted by a "brother." By smiling and trying to mimic his black terrorist aggressor, he will avoid conflict.)

Tripod of Terror Touch
(This is one of the most dreaded gestures, signaling to all privy to this hate language that "we come for their women and mead.")

Terrorist Fist Jab..on a Bike!
(Eco-Friendly Mobile Hate...Don't those bastards ever quit)

Hell Spawn Hammer Punch
(Typical gesture for terrorists after giving birth to their demon seed. After this ritual the woman then eats the after birth and the man rapes the nurse)

The "Fill the Stands with People to Blow them Up" Pound
(Making white people feel comfortable enough so they will all gather into one place so those terrorists won't have to go that far to blow people up)

Old Friends sharing a moment
(Nothing wrong with this picture at all, it's so super cool that the President is chillin with the Pope. Just two friends sharing a moment, nothing wrong with that. I hope they each gave the other advice as to how to properly lie to their respected constituents. )

M.I.A. Classics Remixed

While playing around on Last.fm a few weeks ago, I saw that someone posted a new remix of M.I.A.'s classic jam U.R.A.Q.T. free for download. It was the Root Out Remix and it was fire, then today I see that there is a new reworking by DJ Konrad out on the webs. Grabbed that and that was fire, little more searching I found an older remix by Luvtek that is fire as well. fire fire fire. The original track U.R.A.Q.T. is over 3 years old off the ARULAR Album, but that doesn't stop these tracks from being new summer jams...

These are the shit.

I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry Remix!

Found this online earlier, and I have fallen in love with the song...This is my new jam for the day. It is clearly one of those petitioned remixes from a record company but I still enjoy it.
Though I don't think I'll be a "fan" of Ms. Perry when her album drops sometime this month, but I really enjoy this mix. It's has a killer beat and is going to make a great transition song, just throw it in a set and quickly bring it into another song.

She is quite hott, I must say. She looks like Zooey Deschanel's hotter, slightly wilder, party hopping younger sister...

And there is nothing wrong with that at all. Some might say a perfect woman...
some might say...

Who knows though, I might just eat my hat in a few weeks and be singing her tunes everywhere I go but I don't think that will happen.

Here's the remix from Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco.
Take it for a spin yourself.

DJ Mannes: Making a House Party feel at Home

Posted: 03 Jun 2008 08:20 PM CDT

This quote from 24 Hour Party People makes so much more sense to me now...

“And tonight something equally epoch-making is taking place. See? They're applauding the DJ. Not the music, not the musician, not the creator, but the medium...This is the moment when even the white man starts dancing.”

You know the first 45 minutes of any house party...the foamy beers from the first tap of the keg, the on-time guests who don’t know anyone well enough to show up “fashionably late”, and the silence that deafens the room?

I recently experienced this flash-back to my high school daze and was almost ready to bounce before the foam from my first heady beer settled. Luckily for me, the evening was an eyeful of colorful east central Floridian coastal kids with cut off jeans, shirts, punk mullets, and yes body-odorific bare chests.

I enjoy being the observer but after spending quite sometime arm-pit level and unable to get back to the once heavy keg, the annoying factor went way up.

Just as I was beginning to forget why I had traveled the hour and a half to a house party where I knew absolutely no one, the lights dimmed and the music blared. DJ Mannes had finally set himself up to make this party house into a home for music and dance lovers!

Everyone mutated to the dance floor melting into his Baltimore style of sounds. Suddenly arms were flailing, the odors became one, the party goers suddenly old friends, and even the wall flowers began to bud with movement.

DJ Mannes did his job and well. He walked into that house adorned with a nerdtacular T-Qualizer Shirt from his beloved ThinkGeek.com and walked out of the trashed party house his head held high and his shirt collar filled with well deserved cash money tips!

It's On:Orlando would like to thank DJ Mannes for being completely phenomenal and bringing home the house party.

I know it's been awhile since I've posted, you might have been worried I abandoned the idea of a blog. You, the one person that reads this as of yet, fear not. I shall return once my proverbial ducks are in their rows, I will make it a point to post something new almost daily...

Until then, here's this...

Final Product // ATTIGO TT from Scott Hobbs on Vimeo.

Usually, I am all about innovations in terms of music production or performance. See: The Monome and The Reactable for examples.

But this just looks like a really expensive "hey, wouldn't that be kinda neat" idea gone wrong...

Though there is something in me that really really wants a pair... It's the materialistic, tech nerd, "Lookey shiny things!" part of myself that just won't seem to die... Oh well...
