I hate you. I hate you so much it hurts. What is with your marketing department? Is it run by 45 year old "know-it-alls" whos generational connection is through their 12 year old daughter? Not sure why I'm upset? Well take a good look at the idiocrasy that is your Mountain Dew can.
See that word "MTN" -
IT'S NOT A REAL FUCKING WORD! It's an abbreviation of a real word! Is this recession causing your can manufactures to start charging you by the letter?
I want to know what was so wrong with the way it was before?
Mountain. I understand you want to be cool and abbreviate it to "MTN" - which is just fucking dumb. Why would you do that? Mountain isn't exactly a word people use in everyday writing. When people rely on things in pop culture - such as yourself - to help them spell things, they will realize they have no way of knowing how to spell the word MOUNTAIN! STOP DUMBING DOWN THIS COUNTRY YOU ARROGANT PONY TAIL WEARING, PORSCHE DRIVING FUCKS!
Hey everyone, Mark Starr stopping by to deliver you a fresh batch of electro madness. Today's special is a hot plate of beats cooked up by none other than Jaimie Fanatic and DJ Rockid. This recent smash hit has been destroying the clubs and any crowd I've dropped it for (especially the Breakdown remix! Man that remix is huge!). This one has been topping the charts lately from many big jocks and has been destroying the beatport top 10 (overall and electro) recently too. With thick dirty electro basslines, scratching fx (done well), an awesome breakdown (no pun intended), and a driving beat...this is a dish best served on FIYAH! Hate to dine and dash with you guys but things have been busy lately!
Stay tuned for an official remix release by myself on beatport in March! Hope all you PM loyals are doing great. I promise to make appearances more often!
Jaimie Fanatic, DJ Rockid - Double Dutch Buzz (Breakdown Mix)
In casing you haven't heard, Diplo and his Mad Decents have joined in an alliance of sorts with Serato Pressings and have issued this super limited edition colored Control Vinyl, first in a series I believe. But what makes this control vinyl different from others is that on the A Side is a exclusive Diplo/Blaqstarr single entitled "Get Off." (also with a remix by DJ Rob 3 and a Instrumental Track)
If that's not enough to wet yer whistles, due to the dwindling supply of unicorn blood, these hot pink vinyl champs were produced in a very limited run, only 1,500 to be exact.
Seriously, we get that many people to this site by lunch time everyday... This is a limited edition Diplo something, it's probably gonna be gone by time you are done reading this so I wouldn't delay...
Here is a sample of the single, which we are going to only be streaming like Mad Decent has on their blog...
We have been receiving some fire lately through our Inbox and SoundCloud (whose post comes tomorrow by the by). Today we got fourteen sick tracks from every caliber of artist in the game. Everybody from mixtape staples to up and comers, this was truly a good week for the Penned Madness inbox as well as for your ears.
So here, dig in!
First off, a remix of an Audion (aka Matthew Dear) track by one Mary Velo
I know, I know, more Lykke Li remixes... Yes, but don't dispair dear reading collective... These are good, I assure. The first track is by one of my favorite producers of this modern age, Pocketknife and the other by young upstarts Death to the Throne... Both shall please
LA based DJ/Production duo Oh Shit! have recently sent us some of their tracks, and I must say, I am impressed. Oh Shit! has been described before as "LA club scene thrashers with that dirty electro sound," nail on the head I'd say.
Oh Shit! live is a live act, in case I forgot to mention. And not that live dance acts are something new in the world of music but lately, as evidence by this blog alone, DJs and producers have been running the game for the past few years. I personally can't wait till more dance parties cross the country start bookin' live acts as headliners like Tigersapien and Oh Shit!, it'll be a good full circle type of feeling.
Anyways, here's Oh Shit! and some of their tracks... One of which features a PM staple, Whiskey Pete and one of our personal favorites, Fat and Ugly out of Germany. Good Times...
Oh Shit! - Oh Shit!
Oh Shit! - Good Times
Oh Shit! - Romance
Oh Shit! - Pushin Harder feat Whiskey Pete
Oh Shit! - Disgusting
Oh Shit! - Disgusting (Fat and Ugly "Fuck That" Remix)
Right now, we are chillin' in our hotel, finishing the last bottle of crown. This marks the end of the craziest weekend Andrea and myself have had... We would like to thank everyone that helped us out with all this...
Pauly Crush and the CRUSH Kids for playin' to our family, Designer Drugs for rockin' Brooklyn for Obama, to Elle Rex and her camera, Hot Pink Delorean for hookin us up with everything, Casey aka Vadum Rankin for throwing a great night, Jeff Gil for having us at his B-Day party, our boy B.Rich for killing it, Fantasta-Fucking-Don! for being plain awesome, former Tally local Knowlton Walsh for being down and everyone else at FTW Productions... If you wanna see what went on, check out everyones respective spaces... good times... Don't worry, we'll rock your party if you want us too, just shoot us a message... wink wink :)
And with that, we are going to post some killer tracks by our favorite friends...
So CNN just relased an article online about a $64,000.00 turntable. It's by an Italian company, Angelis Labor, who have produced the turntable with parts made in a Ferrari factory. It's got 4 arms, with 4 separate cartridges, and relies on magnetic suspension to lift the platter. It's practically floating! It's fat, and if you have the cash, or have robbed a bank lately - cop this. They also have some other really awesome products. Check it out.
Also here's a sick little electro banger by Scott Harris called What's Going On Here - It's the Matt Cox Remix, shit issss fire!
Due to request we had to remove this track, sowwyyyy :)
So I know this is a little late but I have been quite busy preparing for our trip. But nonetheless, we got some killer shit for you. Shit that Andrea and I - Team Jaguar - are gonna be bumpin' while we rock CIRCUS in Boston, I HAVE A BEAT in Brooklyn and CRUSH in Orlando this very chilly, but awesome, weekend.
Thanks to everyone that helped us out with all this, good looking out... and special thanks to everyone that bombards us with tracks...
Today we are joined by a very special guest blogger and future writer of Penned Madness, DJ Acrojam of Tallahassee Florida. Acrojam is a super recent graduate of Florida A&M, excelling in gettin' her B.A. in being BA for the past four years. Between massive school loads and full time jobs Acro, as I affectionately call her, has manage to become a community staple within the Tallahassee music scene...hosting event nights, hip-hop competitions, community activities and even a wildly popular radio show to boot.
See, Acro and myself are radio DJs as well as proper DJs here in Tallahassee, at the award-winning station WVFS Tallahassee 89.7FM. She herself hosts one of the stations most popular programs and one of the city's most influential hip-hop show, The Underground Railroad. Together with her own personal crack team of contributors, every week Acrojam brings back the true meaning of hip-hop with three hours of a delicate balance of Old, New and Tru Skool Hip-Hop. Join me in welcoming DJ ACROJAM! -Manley, Himself
Man 'o man does time fly. Where does it all go? It seems like last week I was watching Yogi Bear and Boo Boo get busted at Jellystone park. A few days ago it seems like I was arguing with classmates about who was the best Ninja Turtle (Michelangelo still rules! Dammit!). It feels like it was just yesterday that my neighbors and I were pretending to be Power Rangers and fighting the evil putties. I still think they look gross by the way and I was always the Black Ranger for some odd reason.
While at work, I practiced my daily day dream meditation. I so happened to look off and saw a group of small children playing in the dirty fountain by the IMax theater. I thought to myself, "Where is your teacher?", then I thought "Wow, it wasn't too long ago that I was being reprimanded for trying to push another class mate into a fountain on a field trip at the local museum. He started it. Scouts swear. For real though, you remember wanting to go chase the ice cream truck down before dinner or wanting to play water gun fight when it was chilly outside? No? Maybe it was something else, the hell if I know what you wanted to do but, you will remember saying this..."I can't wait to be a grown up so I can do what I want!!! Hmph!
Well Congratulations! That has come chum! But guess what? You still can't do what you want with out being reprimanded or limited in some type of way. Well, not unless you are Good 'Ol Dubyah (still counting down toward history!) Anyway, having small pockets (tremendously small) and a job market that is just ass bad as Hannah Montana Pop's haircut, is not anything a recent graduate is looking forward to experience. So until I network my ass off and become your favorite artist's tour dj, I'll be here, there, every where, striving to make my mark. Before I go I wanted to share a video very dear to my heart. I hope this brings cherished childhood memories to you like it did for me. 'Til next time...
Well I have been quite busy this past week with workings and the sorts.
But man has there been some awesome music!!! Like holy crap!!! You should see our inbox, you kiddies sure have been busy with your remixing and song productions and this makes us here at Penned Madness very very happy!!! So please allows feel free to send us your stuff!!!
First off... i totally stole this from Mad Decent here is the link to the original post... but i just had to post this track cause if you haven't heard it.... which I assume the majority of you haven't.... this track makes me blow up harder then those rolls I ate at WMC like 3 years ago! Mustard Pimp stays in rotation in my player, on my decks when I spin, and in my head whilst I sleep. I like to think that these guys make music just for me cause if one could make a soundtrack to ones thoughts then damn Mustard Pimp have me pegged!!!! LET THE FIDGET MOVE YOU!!
Next up my boy Figure sent me an awesome Bearries remix he did for the song Killing Time. This track is soo good!!! I really like Figures ears a lot cause this man knows some good noises and sounds!
I am so proud of our fellow blogger, my dj partner, and best friend! He has gotten his first top 10 chart on Beatport!!! If you don't believe me here is the fucking photo to prove it! Congrats MARK, WE RUN FL & AND SOON THE WORLD BABY!!!!!!
Here is one of his latest mash ups!!!! Fucking FIRE!! I believe you guys who were at Menace Beach last week heard it!!
So I'm over at Resident Advisor checking out their Feeds section, and according to Pitchfork a couple of architects are planning to build a house after Justice's Cross logo. Here are some photos:
And just for fun, here is the Justice remix of Soulwax's NY Excuse
I've been a really big fan of Nathan Fake for like 6 years now. For those of you don't know he is signed to James Holden's label, Border Community, a tour-de-force minimal label based out of the UK. Though to simply pigeonhole it as "minimal" would be disgraceful to what it is you are listening to. This is simply the future of electronic music. James Holden and Nathan Fake have been pushing the envelope for years, and they still are.
A new mix Nathan Fake made for Body Tonic Music's new podcast is what this fuss is all about. It's simply out there. Now keep in mind, Nathan Fake is not a DJ! He is a producer. So what you are listening to was recorded live at a party for Body Tonic Music. Amazing doesn't do it justice. Justice, doesn't even do it Justice.
Hey yall, hope your new year was as good as mine. I've been wrestling with myself, yes I won, about posting this track before it got mastered. But I DJ'd with Steve Porter this weekend, and if it was good enough for him and the hundreds of people who heard it that night, then its good enough for you too!
World, I'd like to introduce to you a Penned Madness exclusive!
The lineup for the 11th Ultra Music Festival has recently been announced on the festival's Web site. Some acts include: Booka Shade, Tiga, Deadmau5, Simian Mobile Disco, Cut Copy, Crystal Castles & The Prodigy.
I checked out some of the groups I wasn't familiar with and found I'd been missing out on Soul of Man. This duo has been around for 10 years with their label Finger Lickin' Records.
Style of Eye is definitely on my list of top 10 DJs/producers. If you haven't heard his music, you need to. He knows exactly what I'm talking about when it comes to minimal, house and techno music. Right now, I have his remix of The Knife's "Heartbeats" stuck on repeat.
I was a little over the original song, but this remix brought it back. Give it a listen, you'll like what you hear.
Haha cause I'm just gonna go ahead and drop this track I finished last night to go along with this here Shameless Wednesdays!! haha!! Its really chill and laid back, but you might just find your self dancing to it as well. I call the sounds spooky progressive house slow jams! haha and its just that! I'll post another blog up here later tonight with some extra goodies. I just wanted to get this out before I left work today!!! Let me know what you think!!
So I am pretty stoked right about now, look at what popped up in the Village Voice Blog earlier today... Yes indeed, that's your very own Penned Madness founders listed, along with Designer Drugs, as something kick-ass to do during President Obama's Inauguration weekend. Read more about it below!
On Sunday, January 18th, 2009 a fundraising event is being held at Glasslands in Williamsburg to raise money for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project.
The mission of the Memorial Project is to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by leading a project to create a memorial to honor his national and international contributions to world peace through non-violent social change.
We want to use this event to remind people that without the tireless efforts of civil rights activists like Martin Luther King Jr., (as well as those who came before and after him) we might not able to celebrate Obama's historic inauguration. So let's party in honor of the fulfillment of Martin Luther King's dream!
DJ Rockid of the Netherlands, where do I start... Well first off, this guy has been the Dutch DMC Champion for 5 years running, three of them spent as a World Champion finalist... If that alone is not enough to command some sort of respect, I don't know what does anymore...
He's first single, "GIRLS" came out in November this past year and since then has been picked up my various Dutch radio stations, both internet and traditional. During that time Rockid has managed to wrangle himself so killer remixes of his original tracks by blog favorites Mightyfools, Kelevra and Harris Robotis.
Check this shit out, you will not be disappointed...
Well actually maybe you will...See, all these tracks are "not for da club" quality, but you can grab pristine versions over at Rockid's Beatport Page...
Here are some tracks that we recieved from one DeeJay Jones over in Sweden. These are homebrewed dance tracks that Jones made in his self-described "shitty studio."
They show promise and we look forward to more... Cheers Mr. Jones!
From the Chicago delight Dani Deahl comes the new year's hot track, Poppin' Bottles. Dani, along with our long time buddy Whiskey Pete, have successful started the year for themselves and us blog-fiends off right. Poppin' Bottles has been making it's rounds across the internet, and with good reason - it's everything you love about fist bumpin', hard electro music. In addition to their original track, these Dani has gotten The House Moguls and Kamisshake to produce their own visions of Poppin' Bottles, handing us two down tempo delights...
From the streets of Philadelphia comes the blogs new favorite kids, Tigersapien. These cats, pun totally intended, have ties that run deep within the musical community both within the Philadelphia area as well as my sleepy town of Tallahassee. I first found out about Tigersapien through my boy Maniac Magee of Rough House Tactics, who though their sound was right up my alley. Maniac and Tigersapien go years back it turns out, each one calling the other "family" in the highest regard.
After talking with boys of Tigersapien myself, I also found out that they are quite good friends with Michael from Designer Drugs, who actually helped record and master these tunes as well as make an official remix (which will be released shortly).
But what makes Tigersapien a breathe of fresh air is not who they know or who helped make their tunes, it's how they make their tunes. All these tracks are preformed live with a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and lots of laptops and synths and whanot... like a band. Remember those?
Live production, live performance, live electro goodness... Long live Tigersapien! Taste it!
All links to and regarding MP3's are strictly for sampling and evaluation purposes.
Please help the musicians listed on this site by purchasing their record, CD, tracks, etc. Turntable Lab, iTunes and Beatport are good starting places for purchasing music...
