Dead links bro.
I'm finally feeling the "masks are played out" vibe everyone else was feeling this year. No more DJ masks in 2009, please.
working again...and yeah, i hear what you are saying about the masks... but if it's part of a 'show' do you think it's still a no?
It depends. Most of the masks I see popping up now are just masks you can buy at a costume shop. No effort.. like the fox masks in this post's picture. Not knocking their production or anything (which I think is pretty good), but isn't necessary. Deadmau5's mask is borderline retarded but it's cool to look at nonetheless. That's a good example of showy. The Bloody Beetroots masks aren't particularly complex, but they look cool live and make sense since they're big comic book fans. Besides, they kick so much fucking ass they can get away with it.
agreed, when no effort is put into ANYTHING it gives everyone else within that group, that are hard at work better themselves, a bad rep. I don't particularly mind the masks Kry-lon has on, they make good photo props, unless they were a necessity to them performing... that seems over the top...cause its not a part of their 'character' or 'the show'
Deadmau5's mask is the shit, cause it's made with effort and BB's are killer in their own regard cause they sort of helped the modern trend... theirs like Daft Punk's are part of the 'show'...
I don't think you can hate on masks on a whole though cause some people have been sullying the game with them, or maybe more so, you shouldn't hate the mask-wearing...
Oh, and Danger. I can't believe I forgot to mention him. He's my favorite example. His mask is really simple but super-effective. The way he decks his arms out in the same black material really enhances the look, too. He looks more like a creature on-stage than some dude.
Sorry guys, but Dr. Lektroluv beats them all. Not only does he always bring his "The Mask"-type mask but he's got the suit that goes with it and instead of using headphones he picks up the telephone when he's mixing. I'm not even particularly impressed by his productions nor his DJ sets but that stuff makes up for all of it.
hahaha all of you and your mask talk!
