Taken By Trees

I know we don't really do all that much indie, but I assure that here at Penned Madness we are pretty big supporters of all things Indie. For today's little adventure into Indie/Pop/Psychedelic-Fun-Times we we'll be discussing the band Taken By Trees from Sweden. Taken By Trees is the amazingly explorative solo project of Victoria Bergsman (photographed above) of The Concretes. I've been following Bergsman's side project since the demos leaked for the first album, and fell in love with the compositions. Easy listening music for those of us who like sweet harmonies, beautiful vocals, and clever lyrics. East of Eden, the follow up album to Open Field is a stab at combining the Seattle-folk-like sounds that Sweden has been pumping out a lot in the last couple years with Swedish pop flavor, and most importantly - Pakistani classical music.

Bergsman travelled to Pakistan to record her new album (as the video documents above) but did not limit her collaborations to just those of the Middle East. She also worked with Noah Lennox, of the Panada Bear/Animal Collective fame on the track called Anna. She also did a cover of Animal Collectives amazing jam, My Girls, so adequately dubbed My Boys (which you can find below).

The album is kind of all over the place in influences but stays true to the Taken By Trees sound. You can purchase the album here. I hope you guys like it as much as I do!
