So peoples check this out. Back in 2006 the brothers of Soulwax and Riton started a band called Die Verboten. But it's not just a band it's an audio visual art experience with artist Fergadelic teamed up. They are about to release there ep. And to celebrate it they have put together a limited addition vinyl package for £30 (not including shipping). There only 300 of the bad boys. I got to check out a little snippet on another site, and to say the least I am truly excited about this!
So I flew up to NYC for v-day with my girl friend. We got in late Friday night. I knew Xavier and Busy P were going to be playing at Webster Hall with Alex English, and my boy Reckless. So we got there. No tickets. Line, avenue to avenue. My friend Bryanna gets us in, don't have to pay anything and vip. So all night I'm kicking it back stage and on stage with Frankie Chan, Busy P, Alex English, and Xavier De Rosnay. Busy P had just started playing when we walked in and dropped a loop on Vampire Weekend's A-Punk, rolled it back and dropped the motha fucka. The whole club went nuts. I can't remember all the tracks that were played. But I know that Busy P dropped some nasty shit. Then Xavier came on and just tore the club a new ass hole. I've seen him dj a few times and he isn't always the greatest dj technically speaking. But he was flawless - just amazing. Highlights from his set were his own tracks. And the Soulwax edit of 808 States - Cubik and Dominator. And some 90's track that I think may have been a basia b-side. I can't remember. I was shit faced. I just watched Obama speak in Florida this evening. I have never seen so much enthusiasm and passion in the audience for a presidential candidate. The chanting and clapping and screaming were almost constant. So far, Obama is ahead in the polls and I hope that continues. Get out and vote early!
I've been dealing with a few issues here and there lately, which is the reason for my short absence from posting on the blog. Fear not, as I am here to bring you some pumpin' new tunes in exchange for my crummy attendance record on the blog the past week!
First up is a new unreleased remix of the 1993 mega dance jam, I Like 2 Move It, by Reel2Real. This red hot remix was put together by D.O.N.S. & DBS, two names quickly on the rise in the electro house scene. Only to be described as a hard hitting techy-electro-tribal big room banger, this remix will be sure to set the dance floors on fire. Supported by a bunch of big jocks lately, including Joey Seminara, and heard as current Ibiza anthem the past few weeks, this one is an ace up anyones sleeve for his or her upcoming gigs.
This next tune is for all you crazy kids who are fans of that Nintendo 8-bit sound (GUILTY!). Here's a hot new unreleased jam by 8-Bit Boy, remixed by one of my favorite artists for years now, Dada Life. With a super catchy 8-bit melody, chopped up vocals, hard hitting kicks, and beautifully mastered sound, this is another tune I will be rockin' for the next couple weeks, and I hope you guys do to! Cheers!
Up next is a fantastic remix of Weezer's "Troublemaker", that sounds like a cross between Justice and Soulwax. The guilty party who remixed this tune is none other than the master of Dooms Night, Azzido Da Bass. For all those in the more mainstream crowd, or anyone rocking clubs into that indie dance-rock sound, this one is for you! Nasty synths, great vocals, bitchin' guitars, and incredible sound production make this one a deadly little monster for your music library.
Last but not least, this bomb is for fans of Sebastian Ledger, the brilliant mastermind has been responsible for a slew of productions in the realm of electro house and tech house over the past few years. Leger blew my mind with this remix of "Hello Piano" by Ink Fish and David West. With captivating bouncy beats, techy synth stabs, and one of the most beautiful piano break downs i've heard in a while...this is a MUST have for anyone interested in this realm of dance music. I've been rocking this jam lately, as has everyone else I've tipped off on this song. Snag it while its still hot!
Maybe I'll become an official blogger for Soulwax. I could go on tour with them and blog live from their shows, do interviews with sweaty fans, and give exclusive clips of awesome Soulwax jams and projects. I just don't have those kind of connections. Oh well, you will all just have to embrace my frequent Soulwax postings.
So I am back from my adventure to Michigan. Such a fun time - saw old friends, met some new ones, played some shows, learned to roll sushi - good times! Beautiful area as well, I must say. This was one of the highlights of the area where I was staying, the Ypsilanti Water Tower - the world's most phallic building.
Local legend states that this tower, aka "The Brick Dick," will fall if a virgin ever graduates from the local university, East Michigan University. What a sales pitch, "You don't want the tower to fall now do you babykins?"
The water tower in Ypsilanti only just barely won Cabinet Magazine's Most Phallic Building Contest of 2003, beating out Tallahassee's own dear genital monument - The State Capitol Building.
