First off , I made this screen saver for all the PennedMadness lovers! Click the animation to download the screensaver (pc only).

I'm feeling spooky these days. All the new tracks I've been making and playing have all been sounding like Cousin It and Unkle Fester threw a rave. So I figured I'd share some of my friends tracks that are leaning on the same pole with me waiting for the Halloween bus to arrive.

First up, a newish track from my man Dskotek. With vocals from the sexiest voice ever 'A Girl and A gun,' hard synths, and stuttered everything, this track is a good one to listen to while you tighten the bolts in your neck.

It's rather hard to believe, but you simply must believe me when I say that here in Gainesville there are a few living remnants of the fabled band wars-era homeboyhood, that kicking and screaming creative spirit which brought the world a lot of gritty, angry music about drinking, struggle, brotherhood, a deep love of the city, and drinking. also drinking.

It's true, though. Even in such a seriously disjointed music scene as the one here today, new forces are stretching their tender roots into the soil, filling the vacuum left by the previous generation. Dance music is back on a somewhat steady upward stroke in this city, and while it ain't what it used to be right now, it's going to be banging as hard as anyone can remember soon enough.

Mike Goston is a pristine example of how great sounds will always find a way to materialize from the ether in this odd little city. It just needs the appropriate vessel. A regular DJ at the saturday night Neon Liger parties under the name Sketch, Mike has managed to produce a fiendishly solid EP between bouts of Katamari Damacy, rave-hut misadventures, and other similar party-dependent diversions. The resulting sound is unpretentious, very original, and obscenely clever. Titled "Select/Start", the four track EP in full will be available for digital download or CD right on tax day, April 15. Highly recco'd, unless you're not 110% awesome.

A choice heater with plenty of FM synths and enough reverb/delay to make Sonic Youth's genitals shrivel into their bodies until the song has been over for at least three minutes.

Manley and I were earlier discussing the distilled sound of these songs, and we both agreed on the prospects of great remixes coming from these (PROTIP - email him). But the true beauty of this release is that Mike will be hand-crafting the disc packaging himself in a limited number... this is something I personally cannot wait to see in my hands. WMC, Yipee!

Well, that special event of the year is almost upon us - The Winter Music Conference is only weeks away!

Just like every year in Miami for this monumental event, there is a shit-ton of events planned. All of which I am sadly missing this year. I had to cancel our trip and an event that Team Jaguar (Andrea and I) were playing at WMC. We did this because we are hosting and performing at our party with the phenomenal Kraak and Smaak before they themselves head down to tear Miami a new one, so I think it's worth it.

Though I am not making the several hour long trip down to Miami, many of our other Penned Madness brethern and extended family are. And I would like to take this time to promote some of their individual events and showcase occuring during this, the Conference of Winter Music.

To do that, we have some special treats for you - Mini-Mixes!

Another Shot at Something...

Seems like Don Diablo is everywhere nowadays, and with good reason. He's making fuckin' killer tracks, no question about that. Today, I opened an email containing a new Don Diablo remix - a remix of a Tila Tequila "song," "I Love You." and, I gotta tell you, it set me back...

Now we are not the only ones that got this email, oh no. Many, many bloggers across the sphere have received this track and if I know Hype Machine like I think I do - this will end up Number 1 on the popular page sometime within the next 13 and half minutes...


Tila Tequila - I love you (Don Diablo Remix)

Not that there's anything wrong with the remix, it is what it is... or anything wrong with Mr. Diablo himself, he's quite good at what he does...

My real question is; is this remix of fading star Tila Tequila worth posting or not?

I bet all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets that 99% of the readers of this blog (or any of the blogs that frequent blogrolls across the globe for that matter) would never play this song out in its original format normally... I certainly wouldn't and I am known for playing some off-the-wall, "did he really do that" shit in my sets...

Leads me to believe this is a "joke" remix... but is it a good joke?

There's joke tracks like Ludachrist's MARTA Girl number or Disco D's "Hug it Out Bitch" Bmore Edit...

But when does the line get crossed from "funny thing I saw on youtube" or "favorite catch-phrase" remixes which get a laugh for a little while to remixes of people, like Tequila, that actually think they have a shot (not pun intended) at being a music star. Ex: Paris Hilton, Brooke Hogan, either of Ozzy Osbourne's sons...

I mean, these people actually think that they can break out into the world of pop stardom -
Do remixes like these help or hurt them and their musical aspirations?
Is this an unofficial remix or did the Tequila camp contact Diablo for the mix?

Is it worth blogging about for the fact that one of the hardest working people in the remix scene did the mix?

Or is it postable simply for the fact that there are people like me asking, "why?"

I just don't know...

So, this is my first posting on Penned Madness, but not my first time being posted on here. Greeting P.M readers I'm Figure. For times sake, lets get the "who am I" thing out of the way with ease, through a interview! My friend Hugo at Smile For Camera gave me a great interview the other day, so if you want to know about me check it out here or my myspace

First we have UK head Coin Operated Boys remix of one of my own tracks 'Volume Pals.' I've played this track out many of times and it always seems to work. Out of all the remixes I had sent to me for my EP remix project,this one is one of my favorites!

Bul!m!atron is one of my good friends, He hands me anything and everything he does, it's all quality work with a dirty punk feel to it. In my opinion this remix he did for Acid Jacks is one of his best remixes hands down. Good intro for mixing and a nice build up in the middle to get right into a nonstop synth fest.

Next, Ive been bumping this track for a hot minute now, BlackFinger is on point, but this remix from UMF by HeavyFeet just makes his banger of a track even harder.
