Youth, Speed, Trouble, Cigarettes, Bounce

French producers Philippe Zdar & Boom Bass who make up the sexy group Cassius are back with a new EP titled "Youth, speed, trouble, cigarettes."

Of course Don Diablo has done it again with his remix of the single "Youth, speed, trouble, cigarettes." from their new EP.
Diablo adds some more funk and freshness to this dark track.

Sorry the flash player isn't on my side today, but click to listen/right click to download. Check it!

Cassius - Youth, Speed, Trouble, Cigarettes (Don Diablo Remix)

Yes, MSTRKRFT's Bounce, is old as hell, however it is still one of my favorite tracks, the A-Trak remix being my favorite.

Today, we got this HEAVY remix of Bounce from "Banana Dynamite"

a 21-year-old fruit-loving electro dj/producer who currently resides in Seoul, South Korea. It's a good one, check it!

I Like It

So this is definitely the track everyone is, or will be talking about for the rest of the year - easy. It's Malente's new disco electro monster, I Like It, taking KC & The Sunshine's classic and turning it into a dance floor destroyer! But what you are getting today is my own personal edit of it. I love the original but really love the Riva Starr remix more - but what I felt it was missing was Malente's crazy synth buildup. So I just did an edit and there you go. Enjoy! AND BUY THE EP DAMNIT!

Taken By Trees

I know we don't really do all that much indie, but I assure that here at Penned Madness we are pretty big supporters of all things Indie. For today's little adventure into Indie/Pop/Psychedelic-Fun-Times we we'll be discussing the band Taken By Trees from Sweden. Taken By Trees is the amazingly explorative solo project of Victoria Bergsman (photographed above) of The Concretes. I've been following Bergsman's side project since the demos leaked for the first album, and fell in love with the compositions. Easy listening music for those of us who like sweet harmonies, beautiful vocals, and clever lyrics. East of Eden, the follow up album to Open Field is a stab at combining the Seattle-folk-like sounds that Sweden has been pumping out a lot in the last couple years with Swedish pop flavor, and most importantly - Pakistani classical music.

Bergsman travelled to Pakistan to record her new album (as the video documents above) but did not limit her collaborations to just those of the Middle East. She also worked with Noah Lennox, of the Panada Bear/Animal Collective fame on the track called Anna. She also did a cover of Animal Collectives amazing jam, My Girls, so adequately dubbed My Boys (which you can find below).

The album is kind of all over the place in influences but stays true to the Taken By Trees sound. You can purchase the album here. I hope you guys like it as much as I do!

'Le Principle'

Le Principle Logo 1

In a time where most music coming out as no actual relation to the crowd other than gimmick vocals and bassline in light of the track before it , it's time someone new steps back up to give you the soul that you can't deny. Brooklyn Fire's Figure and Chicago based analog producer Adulture saw the need and thus Le Principle was born. Youngsters , if you like Duck Sauce, Louis La Rouche', and Fred Falke then you'll love this. The days of Paradise Garage (google if you dont know!) were a long time ago, but we still pay our respects to this music called 'House'. We are 70% analog when it comes to production, so if you've been waiting for those warm filters and soulful vocals that bring a smile to your face then Le Principle is for you. With tunes already signed and remixes from the likes of Paul Anthony, Rampage, and Maddjazz!, there is no doubt that Le Principle is going to be a force in the dance music community.
-kind words written by BuckMaster

I cannot share any mp3s with you right now , but very soon I will be posting up promo versions and a new mixtape from LE PRINCIPLE!! Add and follow the links below!

The Pioneer CDJ 2000

If you know me, then you know I gave up on vinyl about 5 - 6 years ago, and never looked back. I was introduced to the Pioneer cdj 1000 mkI and I fell in love with it. All the insane things you could do that you could never do unless you had like 4 turntables and multiple copies of the same record (plus your name was A-Trak). Looping, reverse, digital beat counters (which save me so much time). Then the MKII came out and I thought, "Oh no, how could this get any better?" But it did with the MKIII. The MKIII had the ability to read mp3 discs, platter adjustment, a brighter and more detailed display. But all minor changes in the grand scope of things. Here is the new Pioneer CDJ 2000. This will change the way we dj. I'm not sure if I'm jumping on the bandwagon just yet - but I do know that its going to happen if I like it or not. I know I can't afford them yet - but when the time is right I will get them and I will be VICTORIOUS (we are, he is).

Bob Rifo Is Bobermann

Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo aka The Bloody Beetroots has a new alias, Bobermann. I'm not sure if the name is reference to Russian painter Voldemar Bobermann - or just a play on Bomberman. Either way I'm excited about it. And why wouldn't I be when Bob's first offering under this monicker is a simply amazing remix of Erol Alkan & Boys Noize's epic thunderfuck of a track Deathsuite!

It is my personal favorite take on it - and I just couldn't wait to get this out to the world. ENJOY!

Opposite Pacifica

Does the world of dance music bother paying attention to Japan? At the moment, the answer is a resounding "no", with the exception of the French, who have been scientifically proven to be tremendously cooler than all of us. The Pitchoun blog (facebook), which has become a new fascination of mine in the past few months, documents the comings and goings of a ridiculous night scene in Tokyo (hardly surprising, I know)-- skimming through the archives will reveal not only a fair share of great mixes and live sets, but a nice resume of notable out-of-town djs gracing their past parties (think Institubes, KidzRec, and other international delights of similar flavors). Do take a look.

I can't help but to pay attention to the Japanese. It's a perverse curiosity driven by the idea that it could only be outrageous at the very least, and sometimes I'm terribly right about that. In many cases, though, I'm stricken with awe at the fine taste they exemplify.

The Noelle track below is HIGHLY recommended for more than the casual novelty. This unique specimen gets very interesting around the two minute mark, where a cascading lead synth twinkles away into buildup oblivion. The payoff groove hits with grace and power. This, I imagine, is probably the way it feels to wake up falling.

Noelle - Yumegiwa Last Boy

And oh lookie here, it's Yasutaka Nakata's live mix of the previously posted "Jumper":

Paypur Click

Full disclosure, I grew up with Jess “Jubilee” Gentile which is prolly why the Penned guys and gals let me write this guest post. Udachi & Jubilee create the perfect team. Progressive and historically savvy. They pay homage to their roots. Jess will be the first to admit that she was a legit raver in the day and some of the melody lines will prove it. It’s fast, bass heavy and legit as fuck. I’m not the type of dude to haphazardly declare that the original track is the best but in this case, it is. Luna-C and Dre. Skull pay it forward with Smoke Rings remixes while Cardopusher provides the token dub remix of the title track. Nick Catchdubs, the separate but equal partner at Fools Gold throws down his own dark dub interpretation of Paypur that is more than playable in the right setting… That being the underground Jersey warehouse where Robitussin distributor Wyeth keeps their private stock.

Oh and the Video, this is a must see mostly because it’s the best way to hear Smoke Rings without buying it from Beatport… Believe me, Jess knows how funny this is. You can see her cracking a smile in every shot. I think Udachi has a chubby at 1:44.

Welcome to the Noize Lab

Cue the evacuation siren! ..... pause...... Los Angeles based duo Noize Lab are no strangers to the phrase ," Win by any means necessary." This motto has fueled them to the top of the most up and coming artists to watch out for in 2009' and 10'. Given their obscure and hidden identity, these guys won't be hard to miss, already having performed a live 3 hour set at the world famous Heist in Hollywood, CA they show no signs of slowing down. After conquering the Heist less then a month ago and the success of their release, they have gone on to sign with CitySceneManagement. Whom also represents the likes of super star Dj and Party Monster Hyphy Crunk and L.A favorites The Spys.

Miles Dyson Live

Miles Dyson just visited us here in Los Angeles, CA for an event called Lost City of Atlantis and from the crowds reaction in this video, it was mayhem. We have had the pleasure of seeing Miles up close and personal and I can tell you that his main dj set up includes a Novation midi controller, he use to have a 25 SL but is now using a Remote Zero SL. Has great auto mapping features when plugged into Logic, Cubase, and Ableton. He runs a MacBook Pro with Ableton and has an external hard drive on the side, I can tell you that he's a maniac live and in this video you can see why he's one of the best, always playing only the exclusive tracks. Here you can see him dropping still unreleased Major Lazer - Pon De Flor (Cold Blank Remix). This track does absolute damage on the dance floor and expect for its release in mid to late October. Big time props to Cold Blank for such a hot track, if you like the song, you can also vote for it as your favorite new Major Lazer Remix, or simply go sign up yourself and submit your own version.

Here's some Miles Dyson, I can not live without.

MONSTER SQUAD

We here at Penned Madness are proud to present to you Monster Squad, a new super group consisting of The American Dream Team (otherwise known as TADT) and MCs Whiskey Pete, Andre Parnell, and Jae Stylus. This gang, or rather, squad of high-credibility artists is loaded with talent. Whiskey Pete has been dropping verses on EVERYONE's tracks recently (no joke), and Dre actually won a BBC award for "best breakthrough drum n bass MC" a few years ago). The force behind the production, The American Dream Team, is on fire right now and raising the bar for club bangers with their massive production skills and mind-altering in-your-face visuals.

You've probably heard The American Dream Team's track 'Money VIP' (you know "money bitches cars clothes and weed") which features Whiskey Pete and Andre Parnell. After seeing all of the success that this track had, they all came together, pulled Jay Stylus into the group, and Monster Squad was born! The group combines elements from all of the respective members' musical tastes and backgrounds in drum n bass, hip hop, electro, and dubstep to create versatile and unconventional songs that you'll want to lose control to. MC Whiskey Pete says, “We’re kinda going for more of an album vibe with this. Something you can listen to the whole way through ya know? Not just club singles.” Yes!

Monster Squad is in the process of recording more tracks for their album that they plan on releasing in the near future, and word is that they may be having some production collaborations on the album as well. So make sure you follow them on Twitter and add them on Myspace so that you'll be kept up with what's coming next from Monster Squad!

Dskotek just put a ep out on Beatport through Chicago Label Direct Drive Digital (Same label I put out 'Aura' on)! If you have seen me play out in the last 3 months , then you have heard me play both of these tracks. Heavy basslines , vocals for the crowd and build ups like what , you need to get these two songs. Not to mention the basslines were made on a Moog , not some vst preset!

Beat That Horn

This is a mash up I did for my gig last night! I figure I'd post it before I head to upstate New York for the weekend. So its a mash up of Jesse Rose - Touch My Horn (Crookers Remix) and the new (and very awesome) Beat That Bird by Claude Von Stroke and Justin Martin. Its pretty dope I think. Kind of makes the song more fun, and it went over really well last night!

Enjoy, and have an awesome Labor Day weekend!!

Well here it is. It's just as amazing as their version. If you know me, you know I love disco and that I love disco I've never heard before even more.

The track is called "Kontact Me" and will be realeased later this month or the beginning of October in Boys Noize new album "Power". Here's a promotional version of this song, it is at 320, however there's an annoying robot telling us about the track a couple times.

So basically, as everyone knows that we have a lot of problems in this country right now. I'm not one to go publicly blasting my opinions about politics, and all that fun stuff - that I leave for the dinner table. But I came across this and thought this segment was worth sharing. Yes its from the Daily Show, and it's liberal swayed - but whatever - it's sadly the only news thats worth watching since all the rest of it is so skewed and corrupted that we need at least something to skim through all the bullshit and tell us what's what.

Basically I think the video says it all. Happy Tuesday!
