Late Night

It's yo boy Mustache Florida, coming to you straight from South Florida. This week I was lucky enough to see Steve Aoki bring the house down over at Club Liv in Miami. The highlight of the night was when he dropped Sandstorm by Darude, brought back some memories meng. All I can say is ze night was rediculouso.

So tonight we got some funky late night electro tracks fo yo ass.

The first track is from 2 guys who go by the names, "Starks & Nacey." Both these guys, along with Gavin Holland put on a monthly party up in DC called Nouveau Riche and it's supposedly pretty banging meng. This track of theirs, "Summer Madness" is straight up late night and still gives you that original Kool & The Gang vibe. This will most definitely be heard at Menace Beach next friday.

Starks & Nacey - Summer Madness

The next track is a remix from "Nacey", that he put out for the AA24/7 remix contest. The piano and "always anytime 24/7" vocals do me just right.

Dance Area ft. Austin Boston - AA247 (Nacey Remix)

And last but not least is a track from "Dert Cheep"....this is what he has to say about his track "Get Sum (We Run This), "Its a bass heavy jammer from the city of sin. Its got all the elements of a proper song...

1. Bass.
2. Vocal samples.
3. Alarm clock."

Well he said it right, it's got all the elements and I'm definitely feeling it

daTsu + Christophe Willem: More than any

photo: Tim Navis

****edit: mp3 links are now working for this post. whoop whoop.****

I have a treat for you all this morning.

You may recall Datsu (myspace) from their remix of Justice's Genesis a good while back. It was quite paid attention to. Even more, they've made it to the pages of PM on at least one occasion. Not much else is known... they live in Lyon and, like many other things with a French persuasion, they tend to make things stir about my body in ways I'm not comfortable discussing right now.

This fantastic remix of Christophe Willem's Plus Que Tout came our way and to be honest, it's magical. The words sexy and exquisite come to mind first, but it's more importantly a playful, hook-laden house passage with a tastefully sidechained bite to it, that unmistakably French pulse applied only tenderly enough. It grooves like old house, but sounds like new love.

Christope Willem - Plus Que Tout (daTsu Mix Club)

I should probably change these pants.

Less is More

Greetings writers and readers. For the first official post we've included music from, Idiotproof, Jonny Lexx and myself, Dj Score With all the hoopla surrounding the term "banger," i've dedicated this post to a not so popular moniker, "maximal." No, this isn't an official genre of music, but the term clearly encompasses its make-up. Minimal sounds with equal and sometimes greater power to move dancefloors without the need for overly distorted synths.
Less is more. Idiotproof might not blow your speakers out, but they will keep a dancefloor moving. This track is sprinkled with a delicious number of progressive builds that will keep you wanting more. -Enjoy

RQM dreams of Rollergirl

It was about this time last year when I last encountered RQM. A handful of bass-obsessed producers, notably the venerable Oliver $, gave a smooth little ditty called Ms. Pacman the grimy remix rubdown with a release on Shir Khan's Exploited label. As one of the more memorable chunks of remix from back then, it certainly lent a hand in the groundswell which has assured the abundance of heavy bass in many djs' vocabularies in 2009 thus far.

So here we are, end of summer 2009, up to our lower thighs in wobbles and dookie-bass, getting our reproductive organs blasted apart every weekend with this stuff. Fair enough, I say; it's great, energetic music to get completely effed up to, but there will be a point where it all starts to resemble dubstep so closely that no one will see a female human being within five city blocks of the club it's being played in. And as chauvinistic and unchivalrous as it sounds, it does. . . kind of frighten me, that.

Anyway, we need not worry about that here. RQM is back with another nice early evening burner as a follow up, produced by the Berlin duo Marvin Suggs. Partially inspired by the debaucheries documented by lastnightsparty, his newest single Barely Evil more than adequately nails the kind of inhibition-loosening vibe which softens up the bunkers for the overdrive after midnight. Think Tiga/Deweale Brothers with a bit of an updated, more timely groove.

Listen closely through the cowbell and the smooth, well-crafted basslines and you can follow the narrative of Rollergirl, the saucy protagonist in a cautionary tale of what you miss out on when you stay in Saturdays.

RQM - Barely Evil (Original Mix)

An OMG! Records release containing this utterly spinnable nugget along with a few remixes (Brain Matters, Bass Weazal, Filewile) will be available August 3, so you shouldn't have to hold your breath too long.

Never Knew You

New Cage album if you haven't heard already. Pretty decent. Some tracks are straight stellar - and the over all feel is quite dark - typical Cage stuff. I mean Def Jux wouldn't support it if they didn't like it - so....
Anyway - this is the new single/video off the album directed by hollywood juggernaut and Def Jux fanatic Shia LaBeouf. Pretty cool video. Pretty ridiculous song. Enjoy.

BETA FEST 09 Update

In an unfortunate turn of well-anticipated events, the venue hosting the inaugural BETA Festival has pulled the rug from under Birmingham's feet despite overwhelming local and regional support from artists and would-be attendees. It's not easy to say what a kick in the balls this is to the southeast, as well as anyone looking forward to attending on either side of the booth.

Good news is, though, the set date is still on, but with a fraction of the lineup in the form of a one off club event... a wicked one at that. I'm not sure if we should hold our breath for the full scale thing to happen at this point, but let's stay optimistic, yeah?

Classic major-key rave anthems always bring my spirits back to where they should be. This high, that is.

Leave The World Behind

I remember it like it was yesterday. WMC 09. Such a great time. I also remember going on Axwell's website and hearing a snippet of Leave The World Behind - and thinking to myself, this is going to be the one. Friday night came and I got to Ultra 20 minutes in the Swedish House Mafia set. Fellow blogger, Mark Starr, his better half Jackie and I right in the middle of all the action. Screaming and dancing surrounded by some of the hottest and sweatiest bodies Miami had to offer. Then all of a sudden you could hear coming in. Deborah Cox's vocal stab, "ahh" over and over again, building and building. Then the vocal dropped and it was pure bliss. The whole fucking crowd just started going nuts!
I have never been disappointed by these guys and they continue to be one of my all time favorite producers and djs. Here is the official video of Leave The World Behind shot in Miami during the WMC. I can't wait till next year!

HOT DAMN...I Forgot About That Song

Ay Yo What It Do?
So I've been missing in action in lately...I apologize.

I'm back in Good Ol' Boca Raton...Hot Weather...Beaches...Fogies...everything you could ask for.

"Definitely not Boca Raton, but I thought this guy was pretty pimp throwing up that peace sign"

Today we got a pretty hot remix from...HOT DAMN. Their name really pulled me in, so I decided to give the song a chance. At first glance I though, Beatnuts...Watch Out Now.....then I played the track, heard the first 5 seconds and thought................... oh HOT DAMN!

Good bassline, good hook, a perfect summertime jam...what more could you ask for?

Last Japan Yo

So this past Monday I had the extreme pleasure of having one of my favorite up-and-coming producers/djs on my show, TransAtlantic (on Digitally Imported), Last Japan!!!!! So if you haven't noticed, here at PM we like Last Japan's music a lot! So not only am I posting my mix from the show, as well as his butttttt I'm also posting a brand new single from him.

Let's talk about this song for a moment. Because I'm digging it. It's a song he did with Crispin J Glover and a new young vocalist out of the UK named Kay Young. It's pretty fat hip-hop electro with some chop synths, minor wobbles and bmore flavor flav. I personally can't wait to drop this heat at the next Menace Beach!!!

Yo, so can I tell you how fucking excited I am about this!!!!!! Beta Festival, is the brand new electronic music festival based out of Alabama opening its gates July 25th!!! Now you may be thinking - Alabama, what's in Alabama? Bitch shut it. Tons in Alabama and if for nothing else - Beta Festival IS IN ALABAMA (Read with The Rock voice). You know who else is going to be there? WE ARE!!!!!!!
That's right my beautiful (and not so beautiful) people, Penned Madness will be there repping our new compilation!!!!! More details on when that will be out for the public sometime in the next month. We have our own stage!!!!! What does this mean for you?

Well. There are two stages at Beta. One stage has all the amazing headlining acts that I will be talking about later on in this post. And the other stage will have your favorite bloggers ripping up the ones and twos all damn day long!

To top it all off the festival is being held in this bad ass location called the Sloss Furnace (click that link to check out a 360 view of the venue). It's pretty amazing. I almost wished this was a halloween type festival in this place - that shit would be b-a-n-a-n-a-s!!!!

So who's playing (this is for you people who were to lazy to click the link to their site - but not lazy enough to not finish reading this :-D).

Well we've got Texas' own Ghostland Observatory!!!

A Bloody Soft Side

A new track that is getting a lot of attention lately is from French artist, Ryskee. It's a little ballad that has been remixed by some of the best. But my personal favorite was by The Bloody Beetroots It's got this smooth 80's love pop ballad feel. It's a nice change of pase from their usual balls-2-the-wall electro and from the rest of the overdriven remixes. (Not that I'm hateing on overdrive - I personally love it my self...)

Lady Carol

Photobucket
I've only seen 4 good girls djs in my life , Lady Carol is one of them. She has been playing shows solo and with her Group 'The Lady Killers' consisting of herself and Jackie O. Residing now in Louisville , Kentucky along with myself , VHS and BETA , and Jesse Jamz just to name a few. She is on top of the scene there at the moment if you ask me. Anytime I throw a show there I make sure she is on the bill. I don't give the thumbs up to many people around the scene over here , but she get both hands. Already being a amazing drummer , she just has what you need to be a good dj. She is even my hair stylist! Lady Carol is on her way into starting to make music as we speak , but until then enjoy this mini mix she banged out!

Designer Drugs Exclusive

The newest Designer Drugs track is here, and in new video form! Here is a sneak peak at their remix of "You Heart Feels" from Thieves Like Us, a PM Exclusive.

YouTube

Ahhh, a true cautionary tale of love, betrayal, heartbreak and slippery bathroom floors.

So not only does this video showcase a remix, but the video itself is a remix as well. This video was spliced and pieced together by Elle Rex, NYC party photographer and unofficial third member of DD.

If you enjoyed the video, then mosey on down to ye olde itunes store and grab yourself a copy of the track.

Duck Hunt

Yo, so it's Monday - again - and I'm checking through our never ending messages in our inbox (thank you inboxers :D) and I stumble (came across?) this. It's not crazy - but it's not simple. It's the kind of track I would play with some techy italian electro shit. Something about the old school 8bit acid rave lines that keeps me on the dance floor, and jamming out. This track was made by the dude Oh!MeGa from Cali and maybe he might be the next thing. If you click his name it'll take you to his myspace where he has this other sick track called Much More Lovin' - good times right there.

Alright heres the track and Oh!Mega - if you read this - let me get on that remix ;-)

Got this little tid-bit of awesomesick a couple of days ago from the one and only Computer Club, and I must say, it is most pleasing.
