A Case of the Mondays

I'm tired. I'm cranky. I don't want to be in this fucking office.

So to brighten up my mood some I thought I post some jamz for you guys to make your day better.

First is a new one by Loose Shus called Total Fox. Its a great summer up beat 80's styled jam. I've been personally hammering it out. I think I played it in my mix for todays show on Digitally Imported (with special guest Figure). These San Fran-disco-ers know how to party.

Loose Shus - Total Fox

Next is a really fun jam I found. I can't find much info on the artist, but the label is a down right funky booty breaksalicious label out of France.

Wesson - Bounce Da Bass

PS. The show is on today from 4-6 pm EST on Digitally Imported with special guest mix from our fellow blogger Figure!!!

Do You Remember?

So I've been in Montreal now for a week or so and all the clubs have been MJ all night every night everywhere I go...it's insane.

I can remember buying the Michael Jackson "History" album when I was probably around ten years old back in Miami. Well I could go on about how MJ impacted my life musically as well as the rest of the world.

We got this track in a couple days ago from ze Don Diablo camp. I'm a huge fan of Don Diablo and there isn't much from him that I'm not impressed by. Let's see what Don had to say...

"What better way to pay tribute to MJ than music? I've been asked by press a lot today to comment on MJ's untimely death, but what do you say without sounding cliche. MJ was not a man of many words, he spoke through his music. In short, I decided to make a song, rather than making any comments. Music is and always will be the best way to express a feeling without using words. Rest in peace MJ, I hope you are moonwalkin' in heaven now."-Don Diablo

"Remember The Time" is one of my favorite MJ songs. Don Diablo made it dark and powerful, just right for the moment.

My Tribute

I'm still in shock and ah. I mean, I don't give a shit about his private life - or how weird he was - he was the king! I highly doubt anyone will ever take his place - fuck Justin Timberlake.

About 5 months ago I made a remix of PYT. I never technically finished it. But I play it out sometimes. It isn't mastered (I know again, haha). And I would have never posted it if today hadn't happened.

Here's to you Michael!

Hail to the King Baby

We have all seen the facebook updates, we have all gotten the tweets, we have all clicked through to TMZ wishing they weren't true... but alas, Michael Jackson - The King of Pop - is dead at the tender age of 50 of an apparent cardiac arrest.

Love him or hate him, MJ was a legend and one of music's (and I mean "music" in the broadest scape) largest contributors. He was a humanitarian and philantropist as well, giving over $300 million dollars of the course of his short life to various charities worldwide.

In honor of his life and work, we are posting some MJ tracks in Penned Madness fashion... All remixed, reworked and mashed to shit...

Enjoy...

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back (Chew Fu Big Room Fix)

Michael Jackson - Bad (Mowgli is Bad Remix)

Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana (Dexplicit Remix)

Michael Jackson - Don't Stop (Mike Mago Edit)

Michael Jackson - Beat It (Kid Nexus Remix)

Michael jackson - Smooth Criminal (LAZRtag Remix)

Michael Jackson - P.Y.T. (Marquis Remix)

Michael jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (Alex Rage Remix)

Michael Jackson - Thrilla (Villains Remix)

and finally...

Michael Jackson vs. Eminem - Without Billie Jean

ALSO, R.I.P. Farrah Fawcett, I will miss you as well... but you didn't put out any music (or music worth blogging about) so I don't have a proper post for you...

Except for the image that will live in our minds, three cheers to what our father's spanked it to...

It's MY BIRTHDAY!

Yeahhhhh!!!!! It's my birthday!!!! I be 23! And since you guys that visit this blog are so awesomeeeeee you are going to get some really sweet party gifts!

WHO WANTS PARTY GIFTS?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah that's right, you do.

You might notice that almost all of these songs are from my TransAtlantic 050 mix. Thats because they are awesome. And if I had my way I would do nothing but party to 80's disco funk.

Alright first up is a personal favorite by Cherrelle called Turn You On. It came out a couple years after Prince's 1999. But you can feel that vibe in it. Those synths come in and the track just goes off!

Cherrelle - I Didn't Mean To Turn You On

Second up is a classic from Italian Disco champ Pino D'angio. Got to love that deep voice. Makes me want to boogie

Pino D'angio - Ma Quale Idea

Third is So Fine by Howard Johnson. It has this super funky 80's soul song. It reminds me of something like an 80's band covering a early 60's Motown track.

Howard Johnson - So Fine

Fourth is just a stellar synth jam by Alan Cook called Do You Want To Stay. It's just an overall fun song to jam to.

Alan Cook - Do You Want To Stay

Last but not least is one of my favorite tracks of all time followed by one of the most classic house jams that mashes it up. This track is none all of the world and still tears up the dance floor (anyone at the last Menace beach can attest to that!). It's none other then Dr. Beat by Gloria Estefan and The Miami Sound Machine.

Miami Sound Machine - Dr. Beat

Mylo Vs The Miami Sound Machine - Dr. Pressure

I hope you guys enjoy these tracks as much as I will enjoy my birthday!!!!!

1822 He Had A Groove

Today Portuguese is one of the world's major languages and is termed "the language of Camões," after one of Portugal's best known literary figures, Luís Vaz de Camões...awesome...seriously is there any point of getting a "real" education? All you really need is wikipedia...

Today we got...BLOOD SHAKE...Straight from Brazil
"Formed by duo of DJs Zero and Laka. Their main influences are the ghetto-tech, maximal, hip-hop, b-more and rock mixing into their sets the peculiarities noise and different musical tastes of each. "

First track up is a Baile Funk Style Electro banger with a taste of Mexico...

Blood Shake - Mexico Caliente

This next song has maybe one of the best samples of all time, taken from Fingers Inc's song Can You Feel It....BLOOD SHAKE put the sample in and ze did a good job...they got my thang moving on this one.

Blood Shake - House Jackin

Now......Live IT!

This is my FIRST OFFICIAL post here on Penned Madness and I am more than ready to give you peoples that music to get YO BODY MOVING!!!!

This week I'm blogging to you from the beautiful city of Montreal where up until 1976 it was the largest city in Canada, thanks Wikipedia.

"Props To Stephane Abitbol For His Google Image Expertise"

Today we got some tracks for you from SEXWAX, an up and coming DJ/Producer from Australia and all I can say is SHIIIIIIII!
**BOTH TRACKS HAVE 320 QUALITY...OH HOT DAMN.**

First track up is a SEXWAX remix of Cut Copy's "Far Away". I always get an 80's vibe listening to Cut Copy, but something about this made me think of Steve and Doug Butabi. I know this track is "old" but you gone enjoy this remix.

Cut Copy - Far Away (SexWax Remix)

Last track I'm posting today is a SEXWAX remix of Daft Punk's Classic "The Prime Time of Your Life". I'm always a little weary of Daft Punk remixes because it can be difficult to out do them...but SEXWAX did it on this one MENG. To me this would be an EPIC track at the end of a SET or at the end of a night with the Grandparents.

Daft Punk - The Prime Time Of Your Life (SexWax Remix)

I'll be spinning ZE TRACKS this Saturday night at CAFETERIA in Downtown Montreal, so if you're in the area come on out, if not, you might as well make your way up here.

Happy Birthday Mannes!

So today is the birthday of the head honcho of this blog, DJ Mannes. Though I can't be in Tallahassee to celebrate I thought I'd post some birthday songs that totally seem fitting for a most excellent day like today!

What birthday would be complete with out the slutiest, sexiest blonde to ever walk the planet singing in your ear. Remember to role play while listening - It helps set the mood.

Marilyn Monroe - Happy Birthday Mr. President

And to end is our favorite boy band of all time (we really don't have a favorite - maybe the Jackson 5) singing what could be the only song to make a grown man cry and scream like 13 year old.

New Kids On The Block - Happy Birthday To You

PS. Don't forget kids...mine is on Wednesday!!!!!!!

Touch My Horn!

Get your mind outta the gutter! I'm talking about the long awaited Crookers remix of Jesse Rose's bomb "Touch My Horn". As usual, the Italian duo takes an already fantastic track and turns it into a bouncy, rump-shakin' anthem. This one is sure to destroy the crowds out there with its fantastic broken beat segments, cheeky horns, and juicy basslines. Finally after a long wait and too many bootleg's and edits of low bit-rate version of the tune, here she is in her full 320 glory. Sorry I've been a bit MIA lately, but I promise all you PMers, I'm back on here with a vengeance!

Terror Dactel

Terror Dactel just finished up a fresh take on LMFAO's party chune, "La La La", turning it into a dreamy, spacey, slithering monster of an electro remix. Seriously though, this track kills.

LMFAO - La La La (Terror Dactel Remix)

And if you missed it before, Terror's debut single from the open source label Subdrive, "DTF", is out now exclusively on JUNO. Anyone can pick up all of the stems to make their own remix. If Subdrive hears a remix they dig, they'll sell it and give a cut of the profits to the remixer. Pretty sweet deal for anyone that wants to take a stab at remixing a sick track.

WE RUN (AROUND & PARTY IN) NYC...!!!!!

It's Tuesday night as I write this, & Major Lazer is performing at a 3-hour Fader-sponsored open bar rooftop party in Bushwick Brooklyn, about a 15 minute cab ride from my place, & my buddies Cobra Krames, Prince Terrance, Lovatron & Gray Blue are all there right now maxin' & chillaxin'. If that weren't enough, just another 15 minute cab ride into Manhattan's Lower East Side (or L.E.S. to those who know), the monthly Scion-sponsored party at Plan B has Zomby, Danny Daze (DiscoTech), Roxy Cottontail, DJ Eleven (The Rub) & Blu Jemz tonight (& if you know the right person, you'll get a "I drink for free" wristband).

So....why am I not at either tonight? (this is a "multiple choice" pop quiz, hotshot...):

A) because I was horribly hung over today from going to Le Royale last night for their "Monarch Mondays" party, where the club's owner Terry Casey & nightlife promoters Micheal DeGuzman and Bryanna Berlay all celebrated their joint birthdays together, along with a live performance from Esser (pics can be seen here) & DJ sets from rock legends B.P. Fallon & Alan McGee
B) because I told myself that there are so many sick-ass parties & shows going on this week that I need one night to sleep in & prepare
C) because I told myself that I'd post something on the blog by mid-week
D) because I have the most comfy couch in all of Brooklyn (I have testimonials to prove it!)
E) all of the above

The correct answer is E
(Hehheh.... how many times have I said THAT phrase before! ;-)

If you love music, dancing & partying, this week is just loaded with dope shit to do in NYC! Here's what's up:

WEDNESDAY:

Hopefully my O.G. Pimp Daddy will understand why I'm hungover & speaking quietly for Father's Day (maybe I should just tell him to read this before I get there!)

Sooo......how's your week lookin'?  ;-)

UPDATE: Now its Wednesday night & the madness is about to begin...!!!!

SXNDRGS

SXNDRGS (sex and drugs), consisting of two young upstarts hailing from Brooklyn, just might be the next duo to join the elite group of artists that promise us those heavy, quality electro bangers. Instead of leaking into the blog-o-sphere with a remix, they started out with two quality original tracks, one of which is is especially awesome (in the most bad-ass way possible).

With its relentless heaving-hitting chorus and swelling bassline 'We Can Fly' is one of those songs that will have you hooked on your first listen. Every DJ has their 'secret weapon' that they whip out when they really need to up the hype at a party, and this track is definitely an underrated secret and a weapon that will destroy!

SXNDRGS - We Can Fly

'Chrome Depot' is a much darker, heavier beast altogether. When asked when/how the duo started making music together, the boys gave a more-than-adequate response, "One day we were hangin out, pounded a sixpack of 'mikes hard lemonade' and out came chrome depot." Just picture that when you're listening to it.

1979

I'm not going to lie, I'm still a little nervous about posting this. Even as I type this I'm doubting even pressing "publish post." But I feel pretty confident that you might like this. In fact I wasn't going to post this at all, but the overwhelming response made me feel like people will enjoy this.

Let's just cut right to it. This past Friday I played at the very awesome Menace Beach party thrown by our boss man Mannes. For this special occasion I decided that I wanted to have a special track to play. It just so happens that this is the song. A remix I made simply to play as my last song. All I remember is the whole club just going off! So I hope you enjoy it. It isn't mastered. I don't care. It sounded fine to me and to everyone else in the club that night. Besides you are getting it at 320 - pffftttttt stop bitching :D

Lights, Passion, Action!

Everybody has been going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on......

about Passion Pit. Which is fine. I never personally caught the bug since I've been just spacing out to Faze Action and shit lately. But I'm starting to reconsider that notion. I'm happy to say our dear friend and fellow blogger Figure's roommate, Action Jackson has possibly made me a believer. I'm not saying he's some sort of evangelist producer - but he might be on to something.

His remix of Sleepyhead is stuck in my head like cigarette tar to a finger. And I like it. It's got this fantastic old school electro feel - and by electro, I mean REAL ELECTRO (nod to the Grow on that one). With his high hat arrangements giving some serious nods to Africa Bambaatta's Planet Rock and some serious 808 claves and congas to make any throw back break-dancer happy. Throw that in the blender with the haunting chipmunk-esq vocals from the original and some B-More stabs, you might have the perfect jammy jam.

In tennis something like this would be called an Ace.

VIKING

This weekend, a few of us very special Florida parties will be in for a treat - VIKING (or "PJ the VIKING" as his mom calls him) will heading down from his home in Virginia to join us in our select brand of southern debauchery.

Friday, I will have the personal pleasure of spinning with our new friend VIKING and some others in the crew, Mark Starr and DC/Glowtape!, at my party "Menace Beach." And Saturday, VIKING will be headed down to Gainesville and test his mettle against the fabled "Neon Liger," hosted by our good friend Vijay.

Seriously, we have huge artists come through all the time but whenever we get to work with upcoming talent such as VIKING, I get super excited. Seeing massive talent develop as well as sharing a stage with them just makes my electro tingle a bit.

VIKING describes his style as "Influenced by French European electro wave, VIKING's DJ style consists of a blend of Electro and remixes," which can clearly be heard but more so appreciated. His shit has been getting more than a fair shake around the blog scene over the past few months and with good reason.

Just take a listen at some of these selected VIKING remixes and originals.

BELVEDERE VODKA ENCOURAGES MUTUAL MACERATION

BELVEDERE VODKA Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm gonna keep it real with y'all - when I DJ a party, I like to have a couple of drinks in me before I hit the decks, & my spirit of choice has been vodka for quite a while. Not just any vodka (well vodka makes me sick - truly!), but I do prefer premium & (whenever possible) "infused" vodkas. The basic art of "infusing" a vodka is to take an additional source of flavor (fruits, spices...even bacon!) & letting it soak in the vodka for an extended period of time until the vodka's flavor takes on the taste of the additional source. Sadly, there is a BIG difference between an "infused" vodka & your average "flavored" vodka, as most flavored vodkas are artificially flavored. The first time I experienced the difference was here in NYC at The Russian Vodka Room (who, as you can imagine, does it the "old fashioned way") - I had an "orange infused" vodka & I could immediately tell the difference between that and the leading "orange flavored" vodka I'd been drinking that summer.

The fine folks at Belvedere have decided to up the ante in the mass-produced realm of flavored vodkas & has just introduced a new line of vodkas moving past the art of infusion to full-on "maceration". What is "maceration" you ask? (you KNOW what it sounds like - & obviously so do the folks at Belvedere!) In layman's terms, "maceration" is a winemaking technique in which the crushed grape skins are left in the juice until they've imparted the desired amount of tannins, aroma, flavor & color (so its like infusion on a larger scale). Having graciously been given a bottle of their new Black Raspberry vodka to try out (they also come in to other varieties: Orange & Citrus), I can honestly tell you that Belvedere's technique is the closest you will get to drinking a fine infused vodka at the Russian Vodka Room, without having to travel as far. The vodka is clean but vibrant with the taste of real black currant & raspberry - real fruit, not artificial flavoring. It goes very well on its own with ice, or if you'd prefer, with tonic or 7-Up....& I'm pretty damn sure the Orange & Citrus vodkas can be mixed in even more ways (though I'd like to test that theory...hint hint!). Belvedere has just created the proper spirits for your summer funtime, so do yourself a favor & macerate often with friends this summer!

...and here are a couple of my favorite tracks in honor of drinking...

Remember to drink responsibly!

Dear Boston, Do you like Electro?

I bet you do. I should know, I have had the opportunity to play in your fine city before and I say you shake what your mother's gave you. Well, if you truly enjoy Electro music then you should take some time and vote for our good friends Hot Pink Delorean as "Best Electronic Group."

Let me explain... See the Boston Phoenix is holding a survey in hopes of determining the best musical acts in the Boston area. And while the other musicians in the Electronic category may be talented, none are those I would consider both friends and fans of me and my own - unlike our dear HPD. (and I know we write a lot about HPD, but seriously, some of the best in the game right now - musically and personality wise. If you ever have had the pleasure of meeting them, you would know exactly what I mean)

So take some time and place a vote for them, and shit, anyone else you might find to your liking. I personally voted for "Circus," Akrobatik, Yes Giantess and Passion Pit in their respective categories.

Just throwing that out there... be well Boston.

I have always loved Database ever since I heard their Ugly Edits Vol 1 (Ugly Edits Vol 2 Out at their myspace!). You can check most of my mixes and will generally find at least one of their tracks in it. What can I say these two dudes from São Paulo know how to make, bring and drop off the funk in to our inbox, and we are forever thankful for that!

Great disco electro vibe. Feeling the summer tones.
